About our Raw Milk:
Pleroma Farm produces Raw Milk (unpasteurized milk) and is licensed to sell Raw Milk by New York State. That means that our facility meets the New York State standards to produce grade A (clean) milk and that our Raw Milk is tested for bacterial contamination at regular intervals. The milk is produced by our Dutch Belted cows, an antique breed with unique markings, everything black except a white belt around the waist. They live on the pasture during the summer, eating grass; in winter their shelter is a three-sided barn, open towards the South. Their winter forage is hay. They give us a sweet, sweet milk, the same kind that your grandparents might have relished when they were children. At least that's what some of our customers tell us.

How do I get that milk?
Strong fluctuations in our Raw Milk sales made us realize the difficulties a small farm can encounter when marketing Raw Milk on the farm (as required by New York State) to irregularly visiting customers. The regularity in the production of milk by our cows was in strong contrast to the buying pattern of our clientele and so we were often required to dump our precious Raw  Milk. It became clear that Small-Farm customers, when buying milk, need to do so with the same clockwork precision with which the cows produce the milk. This, and our wish to get away from a marketing system based on opportunism (sell high, buy cheap), led us to create the Herd Lease Program.

How does it work?
Pleroma Farm makes available the complete herd of actively milking cows to be leased to our customers. The lease is divided in shares, the size of the shares expressed in gallons of milk per week. Each customer can determine the size of the share by telling us how much milk per week they want. By signing the lease contract, the milk of our herd automatically becomes yours (how much depends on the size of your share), and you pay us for producing the milk, keeping and feeding the cows, and paying taxes.
